Which lines are affected by the Sydney train strike?

All of the Sydney city network will be affected:

    • T1 North Shore & Western Line (North Shore, Western, Richmond)
    • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line (Inner West, Leppington, City)
    • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line (Liverpool, City)
    • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line (Eastern Suburbs, Illawarra, Cronulla
    • T5 Leppington & Inner West Line (Inner West, Leppington, City)
    • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line (Lidcombe, Bankstown)
    • T7 Olympic Park Line (Olympic Park, Lidcombe)

The Light Rail won’t be affected.

Another separate industrial action has already affected lines that connect Sydney to the Blue Mountains, Newcastle, Gosford, the Southern Highlands and the South Coast.

Transport NSW has warned passengers to prepare for significant delays and has advised avoiding peak travel times wherever possible.

Government and Union Deadlock

The RTBU’s demands include:

  • A 32% pay increase over four years (8% annually).
  • A 35-hour workweek.

The NSW government has countered with a 9.5% pay increase over three years, leading to an impasse. Despite calls for negotiation, both sides remain entrenched. Transport Minister Jo Haylen emphasised that maintaining 24-hour rail services over the weekend is unfeasible without risking network failure.

Will other public transport be available?

The light rail, buses and ferries will continue to run as normal.

The Metro Line between Tallawong and Chastwood will be down because of a separate issue: undergoing maintenance on Saturday and Sunday. The Chatswood and Sydenham via the CBD will be unaffected.

However there has been no detail on whether there will be more services to compensate for the additional demand. Therefore you should expect crowding and these services are set to be overpacked.

What Friday and Saturday day events will likely be affected?

Unfortunately some big popular events are also scheduled for this weekend.

  • Pearl Jam concert at Sydney Olympic Park (Saturday session, Thursday will have trains running)
  • A-League’s Unite Ground is hosting 6 A-league double header rounds (Friday, Saturday and Mid-Morning Sunday)
  • Including the Men’s Derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday night)

With Rydo, you can book a cab in advance for 1-11 passengers to prepare and get around the hassle now, or later on demand to avoid the long waits and crowds.
